Uh, DirectX 9 Final won't come out until 2003. Installing Microsoft beta software, especially software that integrates with the OS, is a very risky proposition, to say the least.Yea DX 9 is out...
MS hasnt officially announced it but the files are on the server, so you will end up downloading the full retail version. I have it downloaded and installed now and using it w/o any problems. Its not the DX 9 beta or release canidates either. Sides u can reinstall DX w/o reinstalling windows on XP at least w/ System Restore :P, but this is the final.

Sorry I got my facts wrong kids...DirectX 9 IS final, and can be downloaded from Microsoft's DirectX site. Full details here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx.All:
If you are using Windows XP make sure you create a "Restore Point" using the "System Restore" utility before applying the final DirectX 9 update. Otherwise you may find yourself having to restore to a point much earlier than desirable if something goes wrong.

In what way does that combination work great? I didn't think that the Radeon 9000 was a DX9 card? If you are using standard Catalyst drivers how are you able to install then for a Mobility chipset (I didn't think they would install)? Have you managed to benchmark this combination yet? Many thanks for your help on these points. I'm still searching for the right combination that will help me to iron out the problems I've experienced with MOHAA and Deus Ex.

DirectX 9.0 + Catalyst 3.0 + Mobility Radeon 9000 work great here.
- I installed dx9 on my desktop pc, Xp2000+ etc.. it benchs a k less in 3dmark,Also my Compaq evo desktops run slower with it installed,,I went back to the last restore point to get rid of it.. Mind you i don't have any dx9 video cards instlalled in either..

DirectX 9 is today out for win98, winme, 2000 and xp. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1037189523.
But should we try it?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't speak for the Radeon card, but I installed it on my Toshiba with the Geforce 460.
1. Install was uneventfull...very smooth.
2. UT2K3 seems to run much faster and looks more detailed. I have to try some other games.
3. This is the final retail version. It is not a beta.
4. When I ran 3Dmark 2001, the details section stated the DX version as 8. I think we need a newer 3D benchmark!
5. This is an edit. I just played Jedi Knight II and it looks awesome and plays awesome. So far, I think this DX9 is a very good thing!
