Disabling Touchpad
Hello everyone.
I have a Studio 1555. I use a MS mouse as my pointing device and when it is plugged in the touchpad would be disabled and an 'synaptic' icon would show that. Just since today that icon is not appearing and the touchpad is not being disabled. That presents some problem when typing as sometimes the base of my thumb brushes on the touchpad and causes movement of the mouse and crazy things happen. I believe there was a Dell driver that solved this problem in the past, and I might have lost it after a win7 upgrade.

Hi,
Welcome to the Community.
Disable the touch pad in the driver settings — Using the external mouse (or key strokes if no mouse is available), go into the Dell Touchpad Properties. Go to the Device Select section and Disable the touch pad. The Device Select section of the Dell Touchpad Properties has options to enable or disable the touch pad or external mouse. Try several combinations of these settings.

Hello,
Welcome to Dell community
You can follow the following steps to solve the problem..
1. Check in Safe mode or BIOS.
2.Check if external mouse is present and causing hindrance. If it is then disable Pointing Device in the Driver Software or detach the external mouse and the Peripherals.
3. Update or Reinstall the latest Touchpad drivers, Bios & Quickset from www.support.dell.com.
4. Change the Sensitivity Settings for the Pointing Device.
