Laptop Case is cracking....

My daughter's laptop case is cracking (at the back corners). It is not being moved around, so I don't understand how this could have happened. I have a 4 year warranty on it, would the case be included in the warranty?
Thanks in advance.

It could be, hard to determine what Dell considers a defect in material or abuse. If you have Complete Care, (Which I suggest every notebook owner should have) then it would be covered as accidental breakage. The only way to find out for sure is to call Dell.

Just to mention that some models tend to have weak "spots".

For example, here at work, we have 12+ Inspiron 2650 and they all (in fact, all but 2) show a similar crack on the palm rest at the bottom-left corner of the keyboard. Now these laptops are used in very different circumstances and by different users, so we can practically rule-out user misuse.

As I had proof that over 10 laptops showed the same crack, Dell replaced every palm rest on our 2650s at no cost, under warranty, without complete care (which is a must-have as Odius mentionned). One year later, most palm rests are cracking again in the same spot. Go figure.

So if you can prove somehow that the crack was not caused by user neglect they will replace the part under your 4-years warranty.

    regards,

    Rick.

If it is not covered under warranty, you may find the parts to replace the hinge here:
