I have an Inspiron M5030, and I think I have a similar problem. Starting about two weeks ago, upon opening the laptop, it would let out a series of 7 consecutive beeps, loud enough to make my wife think a truck was backing up. The sound would stop after seven beeps, then after about 4-5 seconds, let out another series of seven loud beeps. This never happens during the normal course of operations, but it always seems to happen after the laptop has been closed for more than a few hours. I should note that I do not shut down or log off of my laptop before I close the lid.

Hi K.Cremer,
You may try updating the BIOS on the system. Download and install the latest BIOS from the system from the following link:
http://dell.to/SkJtPw
Please connect the Ac Adapter before initiating the BIOS update. Once the update is initiated, please do not use the system until it restarts completely.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know in case of any queries.
Thanks and regards

Hi,
Please share the no. of beeps you hear from the system.
You may try to drain the residual power from the laptop:
- Disconnect any external peripherals (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) from the computer
- Then remove the adapter and the battery
- Press and hold the power button for 10-20 seconds
- Reconnect the battery and the adapter
- Try to restart the computer and check
I would suggest you to run the Dell Diagnostics to check the hardware functionality. Power off the computer -> restart the computer, press 'F12' key on the Dell logo -> Select ‘Diagnostics’ from the boot menu.
