Just wondering whether you have had any luck with this. I was on email back and forth to dell  last year to no avail and in the end i had to purchase a new battery. Now its happened again. and i only use my laptop once a week and only taken it out (sole battery reliance ) twice. I really dont think breakdown in one years use is acceptable and considering im a very in frequent user

I got the same problem yesterday and have ordered a new battery.

Hopefully it's the battery that's the problem and not the mainboard which I guess would be much more expensive to replace.

- Does your computer start at all if you haven't got the AC-adapter plugged in?

- Does the power indicators flash or are they constantly on and in which colors?

My laptop won't start up on battery power, and the battery indicator is sort of weakly flickering when it's on AC power.  The thing that really bugs me about this is that before I replaced the hard drive and reinstalled the OS I didn't have this problem.  So I wonder... is this an XP problem?  A hardware incompatibility problem?  Did the guy who installed the hard drive somehow jiggle or bother the battery?  What is different?  I mean, it's just a battery, for goodness sake... why would this problem suddenly arise after an unrelated incident?

I don't think that it could possibly be an OS related problem since it appears when you try to turn on the computer even long before the OS is loaded. I have also replaced my harddrive, but it was a couple of months ago and it has worked perfectly until yesterday.

I will let you now if replacing the battery solves the problem, but I will have to wait 1-2 weeks for the delivery from Dell.

I have no doubt its the battery. Lisa , I think its just purely coincidencidental that the battery stopped working right after your upgrade.

There are heaps of people out there who have the same problem, and have not found a solution (as far as i know) except purchase a new battery. Very expensive i know. I was on the phone to DELL for over an hour yesterday and surprisingly they do not have a log of such a problem on their database for such problem. I find it hard to believe as a few months back I was just looking at this forum and there were hundreds of posts from members with the same problem. However , when I searched for it yesterday ( so i can send the link to DELL as proof, and that im not making it up) i only managed to find your post so far...

My Laptop works fine via power socket. As soon as switch that off, its like turning the life support of. Nor will laptop startup via battery. When its operating from direct power the battery light weakly flickers on and off at 6-8sec intervals. The battery indicator onlaptop shows full 100% power and so does the indicator at the back of the battery. Ive almost come to a conclusion that the battery is poorly designed. and theres nothing Dell will do about it. Oskar , i wish you best of luck when you get your new battery however dont be surprised if it needs replacing in 6-12 months
