MANY problems with M1530!!!
I am beyond frustrated with this computer and Dell's lack of support in backing their product. I bought a new M1530 in March and have replaced 3 hard drives. After over 15 hours on the phone with tech support and escalating the problem they finally agreed to replace the computer, which was a month ago. I am still having trouble with this computer!!! Each time I've replaced the hard drive has cost me hours on the phone with tech support, mailing back the hard drive, reinstalling all of my software, repeat, repeat, repeat. I should not have to go through 3 hard drives and 2 computers in 4 months!!! Is there something I am doing wrong or does this computer/Vista have problems?? If I could get it to work longer than 5 weeks, it would be a blessing but I am so sick of re-installing everything and starting from scratch!!

It sounds like your laptop was causing the problem to your hard drive, maybe the motherboard was short circuiting the hard drive. I have had mine for 2 months so far and the only problem i have had was the McAfee would not let me register the software.
I hope it only gets better fellow 1530 user
Message Edited by willanaya on 07-01-2008 05:40 PMWhat was the actual problem initially? It's always best to go to the Forums first with a problem. Dell has sold tons of the M1530, with most customers very satisfied.

It told me to run chkdsk utility. Unfortunately I have been unable to run the chkdsk or restore or even defragment the hard drive. I was on the phone for 2 hours with support. they were nice and reloaded the webcam driver. I no longer have the error warning but I still can't run any of the above. Support tells me that my OS is corrupted and I will have to reload it. My IT guy thinks that my hard drive is defective and needs to be replaced. I have vista ultimate with SP 1. My hard drive is 200GB 7200 and intel 9300.
I am a physician and really don't have the time to waste replacing a harde drive or reloading all my software. Isn't there any easy way to fix this problem. Otherwise the computer presently is working great. However, I am scared not being able to run chkdsk; or defragment the hard drive.

Why can't you run chkdsk or the other programs? What happens when you try? What error message do you get?Whenever I try to run chkdsk I get an message saying that it is unable to run now but will schedule to run when you restart the computer. When I reboot the computer it simply starts normally. Also unable to do system restore and defragment hard drive. Is this a hardware or OS problem.
I have 7200 rpm 200 GB hard drive and windows vista ultimate with SP!

Are you typing chkdsk from a command prompt? What about the graphical utility?
What does it do when you try to defrag?
