Processor speeds

Is there a huge difference in processor speeds. I was considering getting a new notebook with a 2.2GHz processor, but was wondering if I should spring for the 2.4 and spend a little more. Is there a big difference between the two or does it not really matter?

    Hi
If it were me i would save the money or put it into adding more ram .
The ram is more useful when running an OS !
I really do not think with 200 mhz more on the CPU you would see the
    difference in the processor speed.
But if came with 1 gig of ram and you added 1 gig for a total of 2 gig,s
you would see a big difference in the speed of the OS !
    Good Luck

Agree with C3PO5, memory over CPU when that close in clock speed.
Sure, there's a difference, but unless your really counting the minutes on hours long-- or seconds on minutes long-- processes then your not missing much. Which can be a point when compiling programs, encoding video/audio, etc. yet not be of much (or any) notice otherwise.
Another point is how graphic cards handle so much of the processing for games and such that CPU power is less of an impact.

Well, the specs I were thinking are:

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz)
Memory: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
Video Card: 256Mb Geforce 8600M GT

I just didn't know if it would make a big difference if I went for the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4GHz instead of the 2.2

    Memory: 4GB .
    Hi
This you need to do some reading on it will not see or use the full 4 gig,s in a windows 32 bit OS
but it does work for a 64 bit windows !!
I will leave that for you to read if you did not know about it before !
    Good Luck

How do I tell if it is 32 or 64 bit? When I am customizing the computer through Dell, it doesn't say. It just say Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate. It doesn't say anything about 32 or 64 bit. Same with the processors. I actually already ordered a computer. Here are the specs:

    XPS M1530
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800MHzFSB, 4M L2 Cache)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA TrueLife LCD with 2.0 MP Camera
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

So are you saying it will not read it as having 4GB of memory? And if not, how much will it read?

Or is it a whole different windows that needs to be purchased?
    Yes
you have to buy the 64 bit OS ether Retail or OEM at a cheaper price
    And
you can not do a upgrade from 32 to 64 bit it has to be a clean install only.
You will have to look and see if there are 64 bit drivers for the computer you are
going to buy it all depends on witch one you buy !!

    Hi
You get the 32 bit that is all Dell will put on it!!!
The 32 bit OS will not see it all or use what it does not see
some say it can be from 3 to 3.5
But i am really not sure what it does come up to and use
the computer bios should see it all but not windows 32 bit !
    Good Luck
