TV Tuner

I have an Inspiron 6000 with the remote and Media Center XP and now I am interested in purchasing the tv tuner:
 
Is this external?
What is the make/model that Dell sells in case I choose to buy from elsewhere?
How does the Dell one rank?
How would I go about watching TV on my notebook?

    For notebooks, I would just recommend a USB tuner... Some of the newer ones from ATI, AVerMedia, and Hauppauge are pretty nice, and a USB 2.0 connection is fast enough to not drop any frames.

    You can then watch TV full screen, or in a window scaled to any size you want.

    Given the ATI logo I saw on the 6000 listing, I would say the only one it could be is the ATI USB model:

    There is one listed when you build an Inspiron 6000.  I already bought the remote separate though.

    If you want MCE to recognize and use a tv-tuner, you must make sure that the tv-tuner you buy is specifically compatible with MCE. MCE compatible tv-tuners will come with a special driver.
     
    Here's an example:
     
    This Hauppauge kit comes with everything you'd need, including the remote. I've been shopping for a USB tv-tuner for MCE, as well, and will likely purchase this kit.

    In addition to USB, some manufacturers do have some carbus models.


    AVerMedia has a MCE compliant Cardbus tuner...

    You mentioned Media Center XP... That is just Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE).

    Cardbus is PCMCIA... the expansion slots on the side.

    So I can use the ATI one then?
     
    Any reasosn you are going with the other brand?
     
    Do I need to put anything in the card slot or do I just plug into USB?
     
    I don't know if I have any kind of internal tuner card or anything of the sort.

    Also can I use the ATI?  My Inspiron 6000 has media center and a remote.
     
    Is the tv tuner card external?  I don't want to open the notebook.
