upgrading to dothan chips?
Is it possible to upgrade the cpus on the i8600?
ive heard the dothan chips will be made to support the old pentium m chip set at 400mhz, would it be possible to upgrade your cpu?

icantdrawanime,
Kiwiel has answered your question perfectly well. I just don't think you have read it correctly.
The costs mentioned are the cost for dealers to buy the chip per 1000, therefore retail prices will be more than his price.
So you can upgrade for sure but it will be expensive.

- The 755 (2.0) has no special requirements over the 745 (1.8). Apparently it is just a marketing decision. I also do not think it has anything to due with supply as the chips are not even shipping right now (hence a later shipdate listed for this chip) and also the Inspiron 8600 lists the 755 (2.0) as an option.
It may not yet be available in sufficient volume for Dell to offer it. Remember these are brand-new on a brand-new design process that Intel has had a lot of trouble with -- it is highly likely the 2.0 CPUs are rare coming off the line.
The other possibility is that there's some design feature or another of the mainboard that disqualifies Quanta (the manufacturer of the 600m) from offering the faster CPU).
