Received my 2007FWP yesterday. Set it up last night and it looks really bad. Not only is text blurry, but when looking at graphics which should have a smooth glassy look, it looks like I'm looking though a scratched piece of plexiglass at it. I couldn't believe how it looked.
Brought my laptop into work today and connected it to a 1503FP (from 2001) and it's so much better. Both were connected via DVI.
It also has the banding problem. Not as bad as some, but certainly unacceptable.
I can't believe Dell is still shipping these monitors.
I'll wait to see what ChrisM says later today before deciding to either send it back for refund or to deal with exchanges.
Have you read the very long thread ontop about Banding on the 2007 ? Give it a read
CRT’s are scalable, and you can raise or lower the resolution settings. LCD’s however, are different. Any settings lower than the native resolution results in either letter boxing, which maintains image quality by shrinking the image to a compatible size, or keeps the full screen image, but adjusts for missing pixels, sacrificing image quality. ( So make sure your monitor is set to its native reolution )
CRT's, must refresh every pixel on the screen. Screen flicker with an LCD is not an issue since the monitor does not refresh like a CRT monitor, so a refresh rate of 60 Hz should be just fine for an LCD monitor. ( Check to see if its set at 60 or at least 75 hz )
ClearType settings to get rid of the font jaggies : Right click an empty space on the desktop, click on Properties next, click on Appearance, than click Effects. In this box, select ClearType instead of STANDARD. Click OK, than OK again in the final box. Done
While you are in the Display Properties doing the above, also check to see if the DPI is set to 96 dpi and nothing else, which will affect the monitor

Yes, I read it (took awhile). I didn't post this in it because the issues with this one are way beyond just gradient banding. The clarity is very bad. When I get home from work, I'll post a couple of pictures.

It was (1680x1050). It actually looked sharper at a lower resolution setting.

It was set at 60hz.

The laptop is a MacBook, so those settings don't apply. I just stopped by an Apple store and connected the MB to one of their 20" LCDs, just to make sure there wasn't a problem with it's DVI out. The screen looked good, so it's definitely this 2007FWP.
on both of my 2007WFP (the second one was replacement which was worse than first) blurry text is another problem besides color banding. (looks like it will be patched - but not fixed - by firmware update)
I do not advice a solution for turning off Cleartype because it works perfectly on my 2005FPW. Thus, I will call for a 2nd replacement.
Thanks for your post. I was disappointed by the blurry text and image on the monitor. Good to know the 2005 is much clearer. Hopefully the flash will fix this issue on the 2007 as well.
Besides the text blur, image quality is poor. In iTunes, the song display has a glass effect to it. This effect isn't visible on the 2007. It just looks like a colored box. If you didn't have other monitors to compare to, perhaps the blurry image wouldn't be immediately noticeable.
If you go to the MENU -> Display Settings -> Zoom and pick the maximum zoom (I think x10) you can clearly see how is the blurry text being produced...
Just for the record - the system menu says B01C18 LPL WSXGA LM201W01, which I guess means I got the old version (before the fix). I'm using it with a DVI cable at the native 1680x1050 resolution @ 60Hz, Windows' font smoothing turned off.
Well, that first message was posted in 2002, now its 2006, just got a brand new 2005FPW, it's really blurry, the settings are all spot on but the screen is contrantly blurry and is giving me headaches!!!
