DELL EDID Serial No Information is Incomplete
Hi there,
I am part of an organisation that houses about
5000 dell PC's accross a county.
We have a large issue arrising with regards to the auditing of our monitors. Any application we use (including in-house software) on new monitors always report the serial number of the 'DELL' monitor to be incomplete. (Other manufactures are fine)
We have examined the EDID string and it seems that DELL are just not programing the serial number into EDID store, completely.
Can anyone please give me a final answer to stop me researching this as to a way to retrieve the
FULL 'DELL Monitor' Serial number programatically.
Here is the serial number structure of my monitor the parts in brackets is not stored in the EDID structure. (The most important part we would like is in the third set of brackets).
(xx)-(x)xxxxx-(xxxxx)-xxx-xxxx
The real issue is that if we phone Dell for monitor support we would need the WHOLE string, not the part that they program into the EDID.
PLEASE can someone put an end to this for me, even if it is to say that the FULL number is not stored; so I can have answers for a meeting this Monday.
Thanks in advance.

What do you get when you run belarc advisor?
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Try the free download.
If it gives you what you need you can install belmanage clients on your machines and keep track of changes in real time from a central location.
