If XP is reinstalled, your video driver software is gone. You need to download the driver from the maker of your videocard, www.nvidia.com,www.ati.com,www.matrox.com, or maybe even www.dell.com if you have integrated graphics. Which videocard do you have? My computer right click, properties, devicemanager,Display adapters, might be a yellow ? there.

What video card do you have, and what sound card (or integrated sound) do you have?  It's tough to help when we don't know what hardware you're using.

I have the same problem. It was ok at first but following loads of adware intrusion I couldn't alter the resolution. Have tried reinstalling the drivers as recommended by Dell. No luck but still trying.
