Backup not working with savepnpc

Hello,

We are taking backup of Oracle database through savepnpc. The host OS on the server is HPUX 11.11. EMC Networker version 7.3.2 Jumbo build 11 installed over Windows 2003 standard server. The backup has been working for the last 6 months without any problem. Recently the backup has started to give problem and fails with error.

savepnpc: SYSTEM error: Dedicated storage node exlerppd cannot save remote data from client c3w2k3x80-bkp.corp.exlservice.com.
savepnpc: Cannot open savepnpc session with c3w2k3x80-bkp.corp.exlservice.com

This was a working setup and no changes have been made to the client. Can anybody help out in finding the cause of the problem due to which the backup is not working.

Regards,

    Hi,
I have similar problem but the client was Windows host. Try to delete the client resource and then recreate it again (for safty reasons please write down the client-id resource of this host).

Please verify again how is the storage nodes field in the client resource. It's trying to send data to a dedicated storage node. Also, is really exlerppd a dedicated storage node? May the problem is not on the client, but on the storage node side.

As Daniel pointed out (and error itself), your save was directed to exlerppd which is dedicated storage node and as such can't accept remote backup streams (in this case from c3w2k3x80-bkp). I would check sn configuration and availability of primary storage node if you have list of several nodes in there.

    Hi all,

How do you find out if a storage node configuration is done properly ?

I had noticed that the tape drive serial number doesn't appear in the properties list of the device if the storage node is running HP Unix OS. The drive serial number (along with Drive sharing ID is shown in Properties of devices configured on a Windows OS server.

The backup of the data on the dedicated storage nodes happens very slowly (ie at rate of 1015 MB.s. Isn't it slow for a 2GB/s SAN environment.

You need to have knowledge of what needs to be configured and check if all setting match desired configuration. You could let your support do that for you.

I had noticed that the tape drive serial number
doesn't appear in the properties list of the device
if the storage node is running HP Unix OS. The drive
serial number (along with Drive sharing ID is shown
in Properties of devices configured on a Windows OS
    server.

Drive serial number may or may not appear there - depending on configuration method.

The backup of the data on the dedicated storage nodes
happens very slowly (ie at rate of 1015 MB.s. Isn't
it slow for a 2GB/s SAN environment.

It is, but it depends on multiple factors so I would suggest again you have support check that out.
