Yes, you can do a directed recovery to the exsisting NAS box.
If you are using 'nsrndmp_recover' command to recover the data, then use this switch '-R nas_filer_name'.
–R recover-target
This option specifies the name of the destination host the data will be recovered to.

Reply 42795:nsrndmp_recover: Performing recover from Non-NDMP type of device
As per this error message it looks like destination machine is not a NAS client. Please confirm if its a NAS client.
Also is these NAS clients of same type. I mean both EMC Celerra or both NetApp NAS.
If its not of same type then it mgiht not work.
Cross platform recoveries of NDMP backups is not supported.

Hi,
The command that you have mentioned above to perform NDMP restores is not correct. Below is the correct syntax. Replace the targer_client with the destination host name and source_path with the actual file/folder name that you wish to restore. Ensure that this destination host has a client instance in Networker configuration and that you are successfully able to run inquire -N NDMP_host, after supplying the NDMP login credentials.
nsrndmp_recover -s sngbku -c emc-fs1 -S 2946788361 -m target_client::/vol/ProdArchive/restore source_path
You may use this command to perform all NDMP restores from tapes, irrespective of whether they are browsable or not.

NDMP data cannot be recovered to normal filesystem.
For NDMP you need a NAS filer as destination machine.
