Input discards on S3048-ON

Hello,

I am receiving excessive input discards on a Gig copper port. Is this indication of a L1 problem always or could be something else. Here is a short output and additional info:

GigabitEthernet 1/48 is up, line protocol is up

Hardware is DellEMCEth,

...

MTU 1554 bytes, IP MTU 1500 bytes

LineSpeed 1000 Mbit, Mode full duplex

Auto-mdix enabled, Flowcontrol rx off tx off

Energy Efficient Ethernet: No

ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 13w6d3h

Queueing strategy: fifo

Input Statistics:

     55572771941 packets, 40558807447029 bytes

....

     0 CRC, 0 overrun, 633285855 discarded

  • MTU is verified and matches both sides (Jumbo disabled) √
  • S3048-ON is connected to an Extreme X450 switch on the other side

You said what the other device was, sorry about that. Does that interface report any discards?

No discards or other errors there on the Extreme side

Anything recorded in the logs?#show logging

Nothing that I can tie to this. This message is something I've seen on other switches that we have but I think it is no related:
Aug 24 12:59:30 %S3048-ON:1 %KERN-6-INT: CP Mgmt port receiving excessive traffic; will be rate controlled

I don't see any errors or discards on the other side.

Currently during time of very low data traffic and discarded frames increase still:

    #sh int gi1/48
