D600 Ethernet Controller/Setup

Hi gang,

I have multiple D600's and started working with one for the first time today. As our client uses Win 2K, I reloaded the system. Initially, the Intel Pro/Wireless adapter came up but I had a hard time installing it. In fact, I could never get it to configure properly. It appeared at first like it was installed, but when I'd check it in Device Mgr, it would tell me the adapter was not active and was not configured.

I know I reloaded it a bunch of times, with each time making things worse. What I ended up with is a "Ethernet Controller" in "Other Devices". This device will not accept even it's own driver. I remove it, rescan and the system finds it again, yet no driver works including the Dell Intel Pro/Wireless driver "R64838".

So now, I have a system that, unless I can get a fix or decide to reload W2k again, I can't use the network adapter on.

   Anyone else get this issue?

Also, Q: Also, does the network port on the back of the laptop work independently from the wireless adapter? Or is it integrated with the wireless chip? I really just want WIRED lan ability more than anything.

I'm having a similar problem.  I reinstalled Windows XP and my wireless network adapter works fine but my wired adapter is inactive.  When I check under device manager I have an error next to "Ethernet Controller."  Dell doesn't seem to offer this driver from their web page - atleast not that I can find.

I have no idea how to install the driver for my network card - i don't even know which driver to install.

I've tried them all, everything which offered by dell - nothing worked !

I don't think they offer a driver for that network card, and if they DO offer i would really like to know which one and where to get it from !

If anyone knows what to do or had this problem himself then please help us !

    Thanks ...

I too got the same problem. i got a Latitude c600 from the auction and loaded win xp pro, everything works except for the modem/Nic card. It will not even light up, I had to add a wireless card to get the puter to take updates and get online. Is there anything to try to get it to work? and if so how? The device doesnt even show in the hardware right now!!!!

According to the system specs that I received from Dell my system doesn't actually contain an ethernet card making it quite dificult to find the driver for it :(  However it is a software problem instead of a hardware problem since when booted with Linux the adapter works no questions asked.
