Dell Driver Wireless card (R201539) Installation Issues
All,
I'm working on fixing a client's computer and there is a really annoying installation issue happening with this particular driver. Here is what he is running:
Studio laptop 1555
Windows Vista 64 bit
Since the circumstances surrounding the loss of his wireless capabilities involved a crash and then a missing driver, I booted his machine into Ubuntu to confirm that the wireless card was not actually broken, which it isn't. This brings me to a puzzling conundrum: after downloading and attempting to install the R201539 driver (which dell says is the correct driver for his machine), setup bails with an error essentially saying it could not find any compatible hardware. I've tried a system restore, no dice. Currently have malware and virus scans running in case the issue lies there, but my gut tells me it's not that.
Basically, I would like to know if others have encountered this particular problem and if there is a fix for it, and if not, could someone suggest another course of action for me to take?

No, I did not reinstall the OS; we tend to stay away from drastic measures like that unless the machine really needs it. If you're referring to my check with ubuntu, I just ran that off my flash drive. Also, I looked at that link you provided; those were the original steps I took to try and install the driver first, with no results.

Try running Finding System Information and at the bottom you'll see your network adapters, at the bottom. Make sure that the betwork adapters were not changed and are correct. The drivers you have looks like it's for a 1397 WLAN.
Did you download and install the Dell System Software and the Intel GM45 Express Chipset Family?
Then try the R201539.

Did you reinstall the operating system? If so, did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems
