IE8 - Unable to View

Dell Inspiron 1525 OS Vista Home Premium.

Receive: "Internet cannot display web page" when trying open IE.   Have tried to uninstall but cannot find programme in Control\Uninstall...

Also Gadgets are unable to show any information.   Must be tied into MS IE somehow.

Assistance appreciated.

    Sellick,

    Open Internet Explorer.

    Click on tools, manage add-ons, enable/disable add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons. Close Internet Explorer. Wait 30 seconds, then open Internet Explorer.

    What happens?

    Sellick,

Before I refer you to another thread, in control panel, programs and features, do you have anything there called search assistant, or similar? If so, please remove it. can get to http://uk.msn.com/?local=iehp so the website does work.

I'll tell you that I remember seeing THIS THREAD and THIS THREAD on going to msn.com. I had the issue with some type of search assistant and removed it from the control panel and everything was fine.

    Rick,

Did as suggested.   All disabled.   Same result:  "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page"    Gadgets: "Service not available"

Internet Explorer provide by Dell.   URL:

http://uk.msn.com/?local=iehp     Only msn.com is not faded.

    Trust this helps.

    Rick,

    Many thanks for continued assistance.

I could not find any reference to search assistant.   From the threads I tried IE/tools/internet options/advanced/ reset which, strangely worked once!   Upon closing IE then reopening - same problem.

    Sellick,

In the thread it mantioned about editing the registry. Make a system restore point first and that way if you mess anything up accidentally, you can go back to the way it is now.

Did you try using Mozilla Firefox? I use it all the time. On websites that use ActiveX, I then use the  IE Tab :: Firefox Add-ons
