    catalanoli,

Try repairing RPC using the System File Checker.  Open a Command Prompt (Start - Run - CMD - Enter) and in the resulting "DOS" window enter the command sfc /scannow (there is a space between the c and the /).  Hopefully RPC will be repaired.

What is the exact text of the error message you are receiving?

    hi

thx for the reply: The message says something like. System error .. your computer will automatically shutdown. RPC has been detected and will unexpectedly terminate your computer. Its something like that. I can't remember it fully because it only gives me a few seconds each time to read it before it shuts down my computer. I have noticed that it only happens when i connect to the internet each time

    thx

    catalanoli,

I can only make gueese with this limited information.  The symptoms you describe could be the blaster worm.  Reboot your computer and enable the WinXP Internet Connection Firewall.  Open Network Connections and right click on the Local Area Connection.  Select Properties and then the Advanvced tab.  Check the box that says "Protect my computer...."

Next, start a command prompt and minimize it.  Connect to the internet and when you receive the shutdown maximize the Command Prompt and enter the command shutdown -a.  This will abort the shutdown.  Use IE to navigate to this site and download and run the Blaster worm repair tool.

Once the worm is removed, re-connect to the internet and perform a Windows Update download and install all available critical updates.  Keep doing this until it says there are non additional critical updates available.

i tried doing your DOS prompt thing but the msg still pops up and this time i managed to write down the pop up msg:

This sytem is shutting down. Please save all work in progresss and log off. Any unsaved work will be loss. This has been indicated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.

Windows must restart because RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service terminated unexpectedly!

You almost certainly have the Blaster Worm.  See the following:
