You need to have a wireless network to connect to. This can either be a wireless router connected to a broadband modem in your home, a wireless network at a school, or a public wireless network at some coffee houses, hotels, and airports.
i have an inspiron 1150 and the manual says to go to my network connections and to click on Wireless Connection, but that icon does not appear .. even though my lap top is supposed to be equipped with the wireless card
It looks like you don't have a wireless network card. Are you sure that you ordered one when you ordered the computer. They don't always come standard and are usually considered an option. You have to choose this option when you order. If you post your service tag number, I may be able to look it up to see if your computer was ordered with a wireless card.
