connecting powervault storage to another server after failure
File1 is a PE and is a file server. Powervault houses all the file server storage and is connected to File1.
If File1 goes down, is it possible to get another PE and name it File1, join to domain, connect the Powervault to this File1 server and have everything up and running such as all the shares with permissons and shares on Powervault intact?
If the other Poweredge has a PERC6E as well, then you can shut down the original server, disconnect the MD1120, connect it to the other server's PERC6E, power up the MD1120, power up the Poweredge and it should see the data just fine.
However, shares will need to be re-defined as they are defined in the registry, and not on the virtual disk/filesystem.
I know this isn't related to the thread but is there a way to redefine the share permissions easily after this happens such as making a copy of the registry keys related to the share permissions and importing them to the new server?

Powervault is a name for a wide variety of Dell products. Even within Powervault there are different product lines; NAS, SAN, Tape, and DAS.
