Hi All,
Not sure if i am at the right board but here's my question.
I have a T1700 and would like to know if it is possible to have a mixture of RAM in it? For example, 16gb, 4gb, , 4gb and 8gb.
Or do i have to have the same as in 8,8,8,8 (since the t1700 can support a max of 32gb) ?

The memory offer for Dell Precision T1700 has been updated to support a maximum of 32GB memory in 4 DIMM slots. It also provides support for memory speed 1600MHz DDR3 ECC UDIMM or Non-ECC memory, as well as DIMM Density of 1GB, 2GB, 4GB and up to 8GB. Its minimum supported memory size is 2GB.

This seems like a good thread to bring together all memory related issues. So, here are some further questions on Precision T1700 RAM. I am getting a Mini-tower version of this soon. So, here are my questions....
- From the table above, it is not clear if i can use Non-ECC to upgrade from 16GB.
- Can i have a mix of ECC & non-ECC (2 and 2 of each to get to 32 GB) ?? Or do they all have to be the same kind (ie. 4x 8gb of non-ecc will work) ?
- From the other thread here, it seems like only Unbuffered ECC can be used, not Registered memory. Can you confirm this ?
- Is only low voltage (1.35V) supported, or both 1.35 as well as 1.5V are supported ? Again, can there be a mix of different voltage specs in the DIMMs ?

As a rule, you may not use ECC and non-ECC memory together as well as registered and un-registered RAM.
Also, you may not mix RAM voltages.
They must be uniform in those specs, as the memory controller will be confused on how to treat the ram. There can be minor variances in the timings, but usually the system will select the slowest of the ram sticks' reported speeds to run them all at.
This applies across most computer systems and is not limited to the Dell T1700.

HI,
This is an old thread but a new question for me.
I am thinking of buying a T1700 but it has only 8GB.
I want 32 but not sure like in this thread what will work.
I don't know what they have in the box so far but I have seen these on sale.

I want to know the same thing, ECC memory works perfectly in Xeon processors, but in my i7 4790 the pc can boot.

When I had Xeon processor in my Precision T1700 I installed 32gb ram (4 x 8gb) memory rams and it works fast, I'm not using it anymore because Intel i7 can't work with ECC rams.
Rams that I was using: Micron 8GB 2RX8 PC3L-12800E SDRAM DIMM ECC Unbuffered/Unregistered model: MT18KDF1G72AZ-1G6P1ZG.8005

Yes. Non-ECC is supported in 4x8G
"Can I run 16G chips?"
No. I mean, perhaps you'll get lucky, but it is not supported.
"Can I run 8G and 4G at the same time?"
No.

I have the SFF and have two slots populated with PC3 12800s so far. I have some 10600s and some 8500s laying around. Can I mix these in with the 12800s?
I got a Xeon on this Precision.
Another question. I have 1 stick of 12800 as well. Can I use this for one slot and leave my other two slots populated? Or do I have to have both extra slots populated so all four slots are used. Otherwise I would have 3 slots populated. Does this matter?

There is no actual spec listed for that post.
Its not a simple Yes or No depends on other factors.
Low Density and Rank 1 or 2 and speed and voltage all matter. Quad Rank ram is NOT supported. Mixing Rank and speed and vendor and size is not supported. ECC is ONLY for Xeon units. Mixing ecc and non ecc is not supported.
