A940 fax problems

I am having problems with the fax quality on the other end. After friends have complained about the faxes I sent, I did a comparison with my 5 year old Canon Multipass 500 and the Dell a940.  Same material, time of day, same service, etc and the quality of the transmitted fax from the Dell was much worse.

How can I check connections or otherwise troubleshoot this problem?

I never realized how poor the output is when you sent images to the Fax software direct from the All-in-One Center until I did a preview of the Fax in FaxTools.  I have a suggestion to work around this quality problem, though:

    1.  Scan the image to a file at 300 DPI black text.  You can set the scan properties to scan multiple items if needed.
    2.  Save the file as a TIFF (.TIF) image.
    3.  Manually start FaxTools from the Start/Programs menu.
    4.  Click on "Send Fax" button.
    5.  Follow the instructions to send a Fax as you normally would do.
    6.  When you get to the "Attached Document" screen, Click the paper clip button and select the file you saved in step 2.
    7.  Continue to follow the instructions to send a Fax.

This should give you a better quality Fax.

    Dennik,

BVRP FaxTools should have come on the CD that came with your A940.  Which fax program are you using?

    Thanks,

    Cliff

BVRP makes FaxTools.  Start BVRP FaxTools from your start menu.  If you don't have a shortcut for FaxTools, search for faxtool.exe on your C: drive.  Create a shortcut for this program if it is found.
