I am having the same problem...i actually took apart the whole printer and found something jammed in the bottom. Also my encoding strip was off. Did you check that?
I have an A940 printer. The print jobs go into the queue but won't print. I have tried unplugging the USB cable....deleted the printer and reinstalled it all to no avail. The printer will scan and is functioning....computer is not communicating with printer. Any suggestions. Thanks.

I'm getting error message 0401. Email tech support has been unable to tell me what the problem is. Anyone know what it might be? When in the process of scanning the light bar stops about 1/3 of the way across and the error code 0401 appears. Will I need to replace just a part or will the entire printer need to be replaced? Tech support has told me that they can't help since I bought the printer 2/10/04 and the warranty expired 2/9/05 and the problem didn't occur untill 2/11/05. I find it very disturbing that they don't take into consideration that the printer was purchased along with a complete new Dell system which was not installed until 2/19/04 and is under a 3-year warranty. Sad! Sad! Sad!
I am thoroughly convinced that this A940 printer is a piece of junk. I believe it is made by Lexmark so I am somewhat surprised it is such a dog. Dell is starting to give off the attitude that it could care less about customer service. Once they get your money, they seem to care less whether they ever sell you anything again. The corporate landscape is littered with corporations like Dell that got too big for their britches and forgot that customers made them great. Better wake up Mike!
i have found that the bar that the cartridges travel on gets gunked up with ink. I spray a paper towel with windex and then wipe the bar. then i lube the bar with WD-40 spraying a clean paper towel with it and wiping the bar. i do this every time i change the cartridges and it stopped the error messages. you should use a graphite spray instead of the WD-40 but it works for me.

hello,
hey,,,try this steps to fix your problem.
Check for any obstruction....like pieces of paper, loose parts.
reseat the ink cartrdiges...remember the cartridge carrier should be in the middle when you open the printer.
move the carrier from left to right until you feel that it would swing or it could move across the printer freely.
