I have a Dell 926 AIO printer. When I open the scanner program (the All-In-One Center), the operation window (GUI) is incomplete. There is no access to the "Advanced Settings" tab simply because it does not appear within the operation window. Also, the "Scan" and "Fax" initiation tabs aren't visible within the widow (the widow is 'cut off' on the right side). Lastly, shortly after the program opens, I get a message: "The AIOC center has experienced a problem and needs to shut down...". Then the program crashes.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the software, both from the originally received CD, and from the Dell Driver Downloads website page. It makes no difference: the operation window is incomplete and some of the control tabs are not visible (inaccessible). I have trolled the internet for any available information on this problem, to no avail. Dell wants my firstborn before they'll speak with me. I can prepare a screenshot of the faulty GUI. Does anyone know anything about this issue?
I am running Windows xp Home, SP3; OS 5.1; Intel Core2 Duo 2.2GHz
Did you go to Windows Updates, click on custom and get all the updates for .net framework, needed to run many applications? Have you Download Latest Java?
After the above is complete, run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Download and run the patch(printer cleanup urility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Restart your computer.
You can then use the printer disk and install the printer. If no printer disk, then download the XP drivers. Install the XP drivers first. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)
Dear Rick: Thanks for addressing this issue. I have followed your advice to others who've had problems with their 926 AIOs. Your suggested fix to me is the same as what you'd suggested to those other users. I do still have some questions you may be able to answer.
1- You state that "Virus programs and firewalls will block communications". Do you mean that anti-virus programs have the potential to block communications? Or, do you mean that a virus I may have picked up somewhere may be blocking communications?
Incidentally, I am up to date with .net framework updates as well as the latest Java updates. You think that shutting down my antivirus program and any running firewall, and then running the Dell cleanup utility, and then uninstalling and reinstalling the printer's driver from the originally received program disk might make a difference?
