    Hi,
Yes you can find a substitute now that is compatible with Dell printers.  It is at Staples Office Supply Stores.   They just started carrying it and they sell for around $25.50 & $28.50.  The brand name is called "Simply".  To get feedback on it from people that tried it...........look for a post call "New Source of Ink Cartridges" on the Dell inkjet printer board.  It should be on page one or two.  It was posted about two Sunday's ago.    Good luck  :smileyvery-happy:

Staples and other companies sell refilled Dell ink cartridges. Some of the people who have tried it have said it has poor printing qualities and others have had it clog up after a very short time (Staples replaced the defective carts). Others are satisfied with the results.

But I wonder why anyone would pay $28.50 for a used refilled ink cart when you can buy a new one from Dell for about $25.00. Or you can refill your own for about $2.50 per fill. I have refilled my 922 dozens of times and it prints perfectly, both black and color. I use the Universal or the I-Print brands of refills. There are many others which may also work perfectly but I have not used them.

William_the_scot...I would like to know where you can get the ink for $25.00?  As I showed in the previous thread...the color ink cartridge from Dell for my 720 printer costs $29.95 or $27.00 if you buy 2 (which I rarely do as I don't have the extra money to spend to have a cartridge laying around unused) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/InkSelector.aspx?cs=19&l=en&c=us&printersku=221-6176&C1=50&L1=96&C2=30&L2=97&MD=720

While at times, I have gotten the Lexmark black cart to work on occasion(failures equal successes), so I have gone back to using the dell black ink.  Now that is $25.00 a cart.  I would just like to know where you get your color ones for $25.00?

As for refilling...I have tried to refill the color carts 3 times...all miserable failures (filling the wrong colors - the instructions I got with the refill pack were wrong, cracking the cartridge when tring to just get the top off).  I have not bought a refill kit for the black - due to my problems with trying to refill the color, so I have not tried to refill any black carts.  THe cost of buying new is well spent when I go over my experiences in refilling.

The Dell price for the ink carts that I use and that some of the other people were using,Dell 922, 942, 962, etc. costs; $19.00 for the standard black ink cart and $21.99 for the standard color ink cart. Also $24.99 for the photo cart. They also have the extra capacity black ink cart for $24.99. For the 720 they have 2 black carts for $50.00 ($25.00 each)

Yes. I usually refill my own but when I don't I can just order with 1 or 2 clicks of the mouse and it arrives in 2 days. I already have an account set up.

Midnightvoice....If I don't know if I understand your question correctly ........so here are three options that are open to you:

    1)   Buy the complete new cart already filled from Dell. (Dell brand)

    2)   Buy the complete new cart already filled from Staples (Simply brand)

    3)   Save your empty Dell cart.....buy one of the universal inkjet refill kits at Staples, Wal-Marts, etc and you learn how to refill the Dell empty carts yourself.  You get several refills with each kit you buy....which by the way costs what one new cart would cost.  It may be messy at first till you get the knack of it but the ink washes off.

Hope that this helps you.......Good Luck

    Later.............
