Problem interfacing with printer

I have a Dell 8100 Pentium 4, running Windows XP – Sp3.  I had need of a real workhorse printer using black ink only.  From the group that is in the same business as I am, most recommended that I find a HP 4200 printer.  I found one on e-bay from a reputable company.  When it arrived, I hooked it up and when I would click on “print” the printer screen would read “processing job” then it would not print, but go back to the “ready” mode.  I changed drivers several times with no success.  Then I called an HP service man who spent an hour here and couldn’t resolve the problem, and he called a computer “expert” who came and decided that the board in the printer that interfaces with the computer was bad.  I contacted the company I purchased it from and after discussing several possile solutions, they sent me a new interface board.  Still, the problem existed.  So, they sent me another printer which I have just installed and much to my dismay, the same problem!!

Do any of you have any ideas of what the problem is and how to correct it?

Thank you in advance!

    Karen,

I recommend that you insert your installation disk for the printer in your computer.  If the "add device" button is available, click it.  Eventually, a "search for printer" button will appear.  Click it as well.  If no printer is listed, then select "Advanced search" on the same dialog box.  It will ask for the IP address of the printer.  You can obtain this by manipulating the controls on your printer until the the "network" box appears on the printer's screen.  Select that box (with an "OK") and then look for the print network information.  The IP address will be on that printout.  Insert that IP address in the box on the advanced search page and proceed.  Follow the ensuing instructions.  It should connect your printer and then everything should work.  You may have to unplug and replug the printer (i.e. initialize it).  If all else fails you may have to uninstall and reinstall your printer software/driver.  Hang in there!

Since this is not the HP support site..... I can't speak with any knowledge on their product.

So, how is this printer connected to your PC? USB, Network, or Parallel?
