Transfering programs from old inspiron to new
Hello, I'm Nick,
I have a 6 year old inspiron 1720 laptop which is on it's last legs. I've ordered a certified recon inspiron from Dell. This will be arriving in the next few days.
I'm not tech savvy at all, using my pc primarily for design work, and I was wondering, can I transfer my useful programs such as audacity recording studio, microsoft office, and adobe collection etc straight onto my new laptop?
Can I also transfer music files, pics, documents and dowloads etc?

Files can easily be transferred from an old computer to a new computer via an external hard drive:

If your Inspiron 1720 came with Windows XP you may use the free data migration tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/xp/transfer-your-data.aspx
Regarding programs you will need to figure out if the license is OEM or retail. OEM license cannot be transferred from the old computer to the new computer whereas retail versions can.
Microsoft Office may be OEM aswell as Adobe if it came with the computer. Old Adobe software may not be compatible with Windows 8.1. For details on Microsoft Office see here:
