DL issues - Phillips8701

OK, mine wrote a DL data disk with no complains, but now doesn't recognize the full disk - or maybe I do not know how to access the data.

When I reinsert the disk, Sonic claims "3.7GB used", It recognizes the disk as DVD+R9, multiborder, closed, data
border 1 is empty
bordr 2 has the 3.7 GB it finds

media is verbatim dvd+r dl,

single layer works fine (also verbatim)

any ideas?

OK, I was able to read a DL DVD from somebody else. Tried again to write, same issue.

    Media, sowftware or hardware?

    Any ideas appreciated

    Hi Dorfl,

I would start with the software, jump over to Sonic`s site and see if their is update available for your version.
Unfortunately Dell has not released a firmwar update for this drive, many believe one is needed, so about all you can do is run a few articles on driver: Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3.
I would also check that the drive is running in DMA mode and not PIO mode, same CD/RW link, Section 15, article 14.

    Best Regards!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
    difference.

Sorry, typing with a 6 month old on the lap :smileyvery-happy:

single session. One go to write about 8Gig on the DL media. DVD closed afterwards (or whatever it is called). Sonic happily writes the data and reports success.

Then I re-insert the disk in the drive and try to read, and the computer can't read it. Sonic reports that it is DL media, closed, with 3.7 GB of data in border 2 and nothing in border 1

    Hi Dorfl,

I am sorry but not really understanding, are creating a multi-session disc, write some data now, then try to add more later; or are you saying the drive will not recognize the full disc space on the Blank DL disc?

    Best Regards!
