Hard Drive Configuation Problem
Bought a Dem 8400 with a 160 gig Hard drive but then bought a second 250 gig hard drive. Both are Seagate Barracuda SATA hard drives. Want to boot from the 250 and use the 160 as a backup. Bought an extra SATA cable put it in attached to 01 on motherboard and went into setup and enabled SATA 01. Bios could then see the 250 but my computer failed to recognize it. Thought about buying Ghost to move things over but went to Seagate website and got a utility that sets up a second drive and copies things over--just like Ghost? After Seagate finished copying system directories over it told me to flip over so that the 250 was on 00 and put the 160 on 01. From there things have gone bad. I can't boot from the 250 and when changing the 160 back to 00 it takes me into setup. This shouldn't be hard. How can I boot from my 250 and have my 160 as a backup?

Did you at any time boot the system with the 160G as 0 and 250 and 1? If you did, redo the cloning and DO NOT boot the new 250 with the 160 in the system - remove the other drive, boot the 250, and then reconnect the 160.
Better yet, switch the drives to begin with. Then boot to the cloning software, copy the 160 to the 250, then reboot.

Thank you, you nailed this for me. I had to go the the Dell resource cd pull off the AHCI driver onto a floppy and install that driver while booting off the Windows CD. Thanks again.
