Using RAID1
I'm having a fit of non-buyer's remorse with my new XPS Gen 5. Now I really wish I had ordered a RAID1 configuration. Does anyone know what it would take to set it up now? Can I just go out any buy any 500 GB disk? So far as I can tell, there's only one model on the market, so I would think it should be compatible. Does one have to do something special to initialize it? How much of a performance hit is there?

The data redundancy is nice and the drives can always be split while saving the data.
You will need 2 drives of about the same size.
Having them both be the same make/model/size etc is ideal.
You can attempt to use the intel application accelerator to migrate to raid1. Directions for it wil be in your user manual.
My own experience with this feature was dismal. It never worked properly for me.
I had to install the 2 disks and install os from scratch, but once done has worked flawlessly.
