Ave.exe has disabled everything.

I am running WIndows XP on a Dell 5100 and in the process list ave.exe pop up. I try to end the process but they return. I ran Malwarebytes and Trend Micro and they caught some things but I still have the problem.

Security center boxes pop up that are fake. Trying to open anything to do with internet or virus scan causes them to come up.

Also have a problem with Google link reroutal.

Thanks for the help

We need to temporarily disable AdAware so it doesn't interfere with our fix

Look to see if there is the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
If so, right click on it and choose *settings* and then under the *General Settings* Tab, turn off (red x) the option for "load Ad-Watch at Startup".
Next go to the *Status* tab in the left menu of Ad-Watch.
Turn OFF (red x) the Regshield.
Close that window when done then right-click the Ad-Watch icon once more from the system tray and choose *Close Ad-Watch*.

    NEXT

    1. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries
    • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555
      O1 - Hosts: 94.232.248.67 antivirsystem.microsoft.com
      O1 - Hosts: 94.232.248.67 antivirsystempro.com
      O1 - Hosts: 94.232.248.67 www.antivirsystempro.com
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ecpdsyhg] C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Application Data\frmeju\ftfxsftav.exe
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ecpdsyhg] C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Application Data\frmeju\ftfxsftav.exe

Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select " Fix checked"

Close Hijackthis ->> DO NOT reboot your PC

    NEXT

    1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
    • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop(How to extract (decompress) zipped or compressed files, help in the link here: )

    2. Copy all the text contained in the bold below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

    Files to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Application Data\frmeju\ftfxsftav.exe

    Folders to delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Application Data\frmeju

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

    3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
    • Select Load Script
    • Select Paste from Clipboard
    • The information should now appear in the Open window
    • Select Execute
    • Answer Yes When prompted "Are you sure you want to execute the current script?"

    4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer.
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

    5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log

This infection is difficult to remove. Try rebooting into Safe Mode and run Avenger from there. Reply with the results

    Seems a hitch has arisen,

When I run the avenger program, a "Open With" dialogue box pops up. I've restarted a couple of times and it's the same thing. When I select open with avenger, the program runs, but upon restart the box comes up again, and it doesn't seem to have performed its function.

Trend Micro and HJT come up with the same dialogue.

    The same thing is happening.

One thing I did notice, it is trying to run cleanup.exe upon startup. This is where it asks me to choose the program to run. It is correct for me to choose the avenger program?

Also when I left click the avenger icon it asks me to choose a program to run, but when I right click on the icon and choose start it runs.

The infection trying to protect itself, confuses and attacks certain file associations.

    Let's try this first

Rt click Avenger.exe ->> Select Rename ->> Rename it svchost.exe and see if it will run, if so proceed with the script file.

    1. Exploring our options here.

    Do this ->> Click Start->>Run ->> type in regedit ->> then O.k.

In you reply tell me if the registry editor opens. (you can close it)

Does the "run with window" open just with Avenger, or is it any file?

The "open with" box contains a list of programs I can use to open the particular program.

    The browse button is active.
