Question on Storage Group adding and removing devices
Hi,
I was working on a storage allocation on VMAX today and wanted to create Storage Group.
After creating the SG, I accedentally specified a range of devices which are already in the other storage Groups.
On executing a show on the newly created SG it added ~4000 devices(these devs are already present in other SG and are in use).
Using the remove devs command I removed the same range of devices as and how they were previously added and did a show which removed all the devs from the SG.
Deleted the SG.
No Masking View was created.
Created a new SG and added right set of devices. Masking view created.
Is there any impact to the already used devs(the other 4000 devs)?? Thanks in advance.
Ok! But in the first case...only devices(4000+) are added to SG.. and this SG is not used in any Masking view. Using an Unmap option here to remove the devices from the SG ...doesnt make sense??? Just curious?
you can remove devices from a storage group and they will remain mapped to the FA (not masked), if you explicitly specified "-unmap" only then they would get unmapped. I think it would allow you to unmapped them even though they are members of another masking view where should be mapped.
nope, since you did not have a masking view in place, they did not get mapped nor masked. I assume when you removed them from the storage groupe you did not specify "-unmap" .
