Storage Pool Almost/Full
Hi,
I'm new to EMC and their ways of configuring things.
I have a new VNXe3150 with 29 SAS 900G/10k drives
I want to configure as much as possible as a single pool/single share for NFS data storage.
I've gone for RAID 5 (4+1).
I have not enable Thin Provisioning
Of the 15.807TB available I have allocated 15.106TB (I tried to allocated the full 15.807TB when I was setting up the share but it failed. So, I cut back until it would allow me to create the share - not sure why!)
Initially I got the Warning that "The storage pool named StoragePool00 has exceeded its user-specified threshold". Now I get messages about "The storage pool named StoragePool00 is almost at full capacity (95% used)"
This is what I want so why should I get warning messages.
The information on the message states that thin-provisioning resources may not be able to extend their allocation. But I'm not using TP so can I ignore these warnings? (With a previous config. these Warning eventually become Errors)
As I only want one large Pool (and one large Shared Folder) why shouldn't I use all of the space?
Not sure why, also, Subscription is currently at 128% if I'm not using Thin Provisioning?
I just want to understand what, if anything, I'm doing wrong.

Hi Leo,
Thanks for the reply.
I am already on 2.4.1.21171 of the software.
The suggestion in those posts is that the issue would be fixed on the
next OS release, but that was back in 2011.
Although you say "if you still can use the storage pool normally", but
being new to EMC/VNX if I get a Warning/Error I have to presume that I
am NOT using the pool correctly and eventually I will not be able to use
the pool normally at all.

Hi Leo,
You lost me at "LUN".
I've nearly finished populating the share with data from my current RAID
in order to make it live this weekend, so I'm not able to reconfigure
the disks.

I'm also new to the VNXE3150, but try changing your alert threshold on the storage pool - System, Storage Pools, Storage Pool Details. If you know you've created some storage on a storage pool (shared folders I assume) then you know what % you have used.
I'm assuming, this is for when you have items that are growable/dynamic/thin provisioned on the storage pool (not sure of the terminology ) to get a warning when they grow beyond a certain % - or possibly if you have a number of different users creating storage?

Hi Steve,
I think that although you received "The storage pool named StoragePool00 is almost at full capacity (95% used)"; you can ignore the alert if you still can use the storage pool normally.
Also, please check your OE version. Now the latest VNXe OE is 2.4.1.21171. OE 2.4.1 fixed some problem. So, suggest you to upgrade VNXe to latest OE 2.4.1
