If you disabled anything related to this junkware in msconfig, re-enable it, restart, and, if necessary, go back to the (worthless) site that offered it and reinstall it, then follow the removal instructions at the link above.

Spontaneous "Do you want to download and install...?" popups are complete trash.  NEVER say Yes.

Flooby, what I thought I would do is go into the Dell Resolution Center and restore my files. It says System Restore cannot be run until you restart the computer.  After I reboot, it still doesn't work.

I still get the blue screen that says:

filename: VWIN32(05)+000012D0

ERROR: OE 0028:C024A4A8

 

I don't recall suggesting System Restore, but I'm not especially surprised at the results.  Did you try what I suggested?

I ran spybot and registry mechanic, I seem to be okay at this point.  I haven't tried Dell Resolution Center though. Not sure why that problem exists.

If you're referring to the Dell Resolution Assistant, I can save you the trouble.  That particularly worthless support option was discontinued in July of 2001.

Well, what am I thinking of then?  I have used something from Dell that you can go back to a certain date and reload your PC to that point?

I don't think what I am talking about even involves being on-line.

Let me try to explain these 1 at a time:

1. '*.Ink' , these items seem to have been solved by mechanic registry or spybot, they were showing as disabled startup items. They seem to be back.

2. I still get the blue screen, says VWIN32(05)+000012D0  ERROR:OE 0028:C02A44A8    I hit enter and it reboots.

3. MSCONFIG has an option to "cleanup".  To  me this is necessary to use after I have add/removed programs and the boxes are still showing in msconfig but they need to be deleted or cleaned up.  Anyway, this clean up feature says "A setup program was run that requires a restart. You must restart before you can use this feature"

The PC is working okay for my needs but clearly something is not right.  I will go to the URLs you provided and read up and see if I can fix it.

1st URL you provided. Same result, no matter how I request System Restore, it isn't working.

2nd URL seems to have done me some good.  I didn't do the safe mode thing I just searched and found wininit file and renamed it as it said to do.  It was just wininit, so I made it wininit.xxx and now the cleanup worked on msconfig. I am able to get system restore to work also but I am not going to run it. I am afraid to screw the PC up as it is so-so right now.

There was no prior restore point.  I don't believe I have Mailer Washer installed.  I did a reboot and did not get the blue screen but I doubt I have done anything to cure that.

I do get an error box about hp08 something or other. I figured it was my printer or something as I have a HP 6110xi but as I say all is okay for now.

Do you by any chance have an application called "Mail Washer" installed?  If so, try uninstalling it, and see if the blue screen error goes away.

As far as the System Restore thing goes, if you're able to use it now (and assuming you have a restore point prior to when all the problems showed up), I doubt that it will hurt anything to give it a try.  If the system is only running "so-so" as it is, it certainly shouldn't hurt much.

Regarding the cleanup thing in msconfig, if you've uninstalled the program(s), leaving the entries in msconfig isn't going to hurt a thing, nor will their presence there affect system performance in any way.
