I am running a Dell Dimension E510, 3.0Ghz Pent4, 2 GB ram, 160 GB hard drive and Windows XP Home.
Last weekend I got the BSOD and upon reboot I had no Mouse, Keyboard or sound. After much help here on the forum (thanks everyone) I ended up having to take the PC to a local repair shop. They couldn't fix it either so they had to format and reload XP and they couldn't save the data on my hard drive.
I got the PC back yesterday so I've spent the last 36 hours re-installing software etc. Today I've gotten the BSOD twice. I've been able to restart and everything works fine, so far. Where can I go to find out what the error codes mean? The first one was: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x8A081DAO, 0x8A081F14 and 0x805D1140). The second one was: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x89F26950, 0x89F26AC4 and 0x805D1140).
One of the many processes or threads crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. As a result, the system can no longer function. Specific causes are many, and often best resolved by a careful history of the problem and the circumstances of the error message. One user, who experienced this on return from Standby mode on Win XP SP2, found the cause was that Windows was installed on a slave drive
I will assume this PC has SATA hard drive
I would check the jumpers on the Optical drives to be sure they are jumpered "Cable Select"
If this PC has a PATA (IDE) hard drive check to be sure it is jumpered "cable select"
I also wonder if you have a failing hard drive, try running the Dell Diagnostics.
You may have to run this from CD (you may have it if you got a Dell drivers and utilities CD with your purchase) since it was reinstalled, depending on how this was done.
If you do not have the Dell drivers and utilities CD
Get the ISO image here and burn it to CD as an Image, will not work if you just copy the file to CD.
They tried slaving the drive. The machine would see it but not recognize it. I'm not sure if that is the correct terminology but I hope you get the idea.
Okay, I ran the Hard Drive Diag from the F12 screen. It came back with a Maxtor 6v160eo - failed, return code: 7. Does this tell you anything?
I also did the Event Viewer. The big things I found were in Application. Event 1000, faulting application ctsvolfe.exe and event 1001 fault bucket 94435161.
