Vista hasn't been around long enough to get a lot of feedback on how well BIOS updates perform under that OS.  The safest way would be to burn the BIOS update to a CD.  Then boot the system using a bootable DOS CD and manually run the BIOS update from the burnt CD.  An alternative would be to plug a floppy drive into the motherboard, use a DOS bootable floppy along with a floppy containing the BIOS update.

As far as switching back to Windows XP after a BIOS update, yes you can.   The latest BIOS version will work with either operating system.

Thank You for your reply. I don' think I made myself very clear the BIOS update will be installed using the 'Dell Upgrade Assistant DVD' under XP then Vista will be installed is this OK. Regards, ltr

Don't think of the BIOS upgrade as a "Vista BIOS", it's just a standard BIOS upgrade, you won't have any new issues going back to XP regardless of what BIOS you have.

Sorry! Didn't think there would be another update so soon. It is 2.2.1.Just came out. When i installed Vista business it upgraded Bios to 2.1.2. This Vista is a lot of work but it,s pretty cool I guess. Nothing too spectacular.Or should I say not much WOW!Just a different look.
