Disabling Synaptics Touchpad
Hi folks,
Have a strange request here, need to disable synaptics touchpad on inspiron 5160. Friend is blind and it causes more trouble than its worth. Have looked at the maual online that dell supplies and it says
Customizing the Touch Pad
You can use the Mouse Properties window to disable the touch pad or adjust its settings.
1 Open the Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Mouse.
2 In the Mouse Properties window:
• Click the Device Select tab to disable the touch pad.
• Click the Pointer tab to adjust touch pad settings.
3 Click OK to save the settings and close the window.
All very well but there is no 'Device Select Tab' available in the mouse properties window.........
I'd appreciate any and all help that anyone can give.
Cheers

Hi folks,
Have solved my own problem, seems that the computer was using the driver that comes with XP and not the correct Synaptics driver. When I installed that and rebooted I could access the Synaptics utility for controlling the touchpad, including disable..... reboot, no mouse movement......
