    hotinfo,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You can download the driver by clicking the link below.

I downloaded these drivers, but the install keeps complaining about not being able to find the right .INF-file.

Could you help me out please??

    Thanks in advance!!

Hi Jasper, I still don't have an Inspiron since I'm waiting for the UltraSharp Display being deliverable again in Germany, but on a similar question concerning Win2k I got already some good answers. I would recommend the answer of JoshRyder in http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_video&message.id=58103 which describes his configuration of the .INF-files. Hope this will help you.

i am trying the suggested url ( http://www.nvchips-fr.com/download/downloads.php?Category=42  ) in order to find a WIN2K video driver for my new Dell Inspiron 8200. It has been shiiped with a ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. I downloaded the [ ATI Radeon 8500, 7500, 7200, 7000,RV230, R300, Radeon (et 7500)Mobility,M9...
] driver and installed it without luck. Can you please tell me which driver I should use in order to get this blasted Dell 8200 working with WIN2000. I cannot use WinXP thanks to some software not being supported under XP.

    Cheer and Many Thanks

    Anthony

    hi

if you give me your mail address i can send you my downloaded beta driver with wk2 and ati radeon 9000 works. the question is can it be dangerous to install it. Because i also sent mails to ATI Corp. and the answer was that the driver for the mobility chips are special. i dont know if in the meantime a real version was released.

    regards hotinfo

Many thanks to ingo_k and to JoshRyder for their help. Recently I was
asked to put Windows 2000 on an Inspiron 8200 with an ATI Radeon Mobility
9000 and was able to do so only with their help. However with the later
version of the ATI file I was able to get, namely
    wxp-w2k-radeon-6-13-10-6218-efg.exe,
after unpacking the file I was able to get an install by simply adding a
line (here I show the directory with the linux "pwd" command, then
show the change with diff. Here I am running linux from CD, with the
Windows 2000 partition mounted on /dos):

    $ pwd
    /dos/ati/support/wxp-w2k-radeon-6-13-10-6218-efg/2kxp_inf

    $ diff c2_06641.inf.original c2_06641.inf
    85a86
    > "RADEON mobility 9000 (Leon)" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4c66

This is because the PCI ID of the video adapter was 1002:4c66

This line was easily added by replicating the "Radeon 9000 Series" line:
    "RADEON 9000 Series" = ati2mtag_RV250, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4966
then just changing the final "9" to "c" and then change the
string as desired. (I put my name there to let people know it is not
    an "official" driver :-)

    Where's the .inf file?!*&!

This is becoming a huge nuisance?

I need to use Win2000.  My next stepis return this thing or send it back with an nVidia card.

    Jesse L (Moderator),

The link you included in your post doesn't work.  It is missing the (inf) file.  This seems sort of wreckless on your part to post this as a solution without verifying it works first. (And in fact, ATI is not shy about saying Dell customer need to get the correct drivers from Dell - as it's not their responsibility)

Dell T/S has told me twice in the past week that drivers for the (addt'l $119) ATI Mobilty Radeon 9000 are "coming", but could not even assure me they'd be available within a month.

Is Win2000 not common enough to write drivers for your top of the line Inspiron 8200 I just bought?

They couldn't even offer me the ability to swap out the ATI card for the cheaper Nvidia 32MB card in the field.  They said I'd need to incur a 15% depreciation fee if I returned it and reordered it with the standard Nvidia.  Now there's Customer Service!

    What the heck... Any suggestions...

Go to this thread: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_video&message.id=58103 and follow JoshRyder's instructions. It works.
