I had to replace my Sager laptop in early January and was looking for room for upgrade growth plus a free upgrade to Vista.
Over my better judgement I got a Dell E1705.
Ten days later, while typing fast, the Enter key went flying. I'm supposed to have OnSite service for a year, they instead sent a replacement keyboard. I've not yet installed it, haven't been feeling too well.
I had specified that I did not want a Sharp lcd, but wanted an LG... and that was agreed. Guess what's in this system? A Sharp as I learned when I phoned re the Enter key issue.
Last night I went online to order the free (plus s/h) Vista upgrade and got an error msg that an upgrade had been already been ordered.
Phoned the 800 number only to find it has limited hours.
Just phoned only to learn that Dell shipped systems with errors in the Windows XP Pro Certificate of Authenticity number.
Dell never bothered to inform me, I had to find the problem.
So about 15 March, Dell is supposed to provide a new Certificate of Authenticity Number.... only days before the free upgrade offer expires. I am fuming.
I have yet to be able to get the free upgrade to Vista for my qualifying e1705 purchased 7 Jan 2007.
I have made countless followup phone calls to the free Vista upgrade phone number and ostentibly several Escalation of Concern reports were filed.
Yesterday, I tried to access Dell's LiveChat to find Service not Available. I phoned two other Dell customer service numbers. One fellow told me I had been phoning the wrong number and when I phoned the number he supplied for Dell fulfillment, the gent said it was not a Dell phone number and not to phone again.
The other 800 number rep at least seemed to have his act together and sent me a copy of yet another Escalation of Concern report, so now I have a case number in hand. There has been no response to my email to Dell with that case number.
As of a few minutes ago, I still am not able to order the free upgrade to Vista as enumerated on my Dell order. There is no phone customer service on weekends. The free upgrade to Vista offer expires on 31 March 2007.
In your collective wisdom here, what would you recommend as my next action?
