Event Viewer (System) displays DCOM error.

Dell Dimension 8100
Pent. 4    1.3 MHZ
Bios XP2
XP Home - SP1
Ram  512 mb

The event viewer (system) displays many error msgs. as follows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10000
Date:  7/18/2004
Time:  5:25:54 PM
User:
Computer:
Description:
Unable to start a DCOM Server: {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541}. The error:
"The system cannot find the path specified. "
Happened while starting this command:
C:\PROGRA~1\AIM\aim.exe -Embedding
These error msgs. began occuring after I removed a program downloaded by my Grandson called AIM.  I removed it using the add/remove listing in the Control Panel and also did a search and removed a couple of AIM related entries in the Registry.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions in finding the source of these error msgs.
Joe

Learn to live with it. DCOM's one of those MS "mistakes". You can download and install "Decombobulator" (search Google- it's free)which supposedly disables DCOM, but you'll more than likely still get the errors. They don't mean anything.

i would look in the task manager and see if you see "aim" running, in "processes".. also, i would use regedit and look to see if there is a regkey for "aim" in hkey_local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run, (intended to cause "aim" to run at startup), and delete it, if there is one.. (i do not mean to delete "run"!)  also, go to start/all programs/startup, and see if "aim" is running from there.. if there is an entry there for "aim", delete it..

you could try using grc's "decombobulator".. also, i would look at your firewall rules and, if you see "aim" in the firewall's rules, i would delete the entry..
