The "free" Windows 7 upgrade spoken of in this thread is long gone - it was a limited time offer for those purchasing a new PC when Windows 7 first came out.
If you are just looking to upgrade your system to Windows 7, then start by running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor:
If it doesn't identify any substantial problems with running Windows 7 on your computer, then you can check the Drivers and Downloads page for your system at support.dell.com to see if Dell has Windows 7 drivers for your system. They likely do not, as they only provide drivers for OS's that are current when that particular system is available for order (unless it is a business-class machine). If not, Windows 7 will probably have nearly all the drivers your system needs. Any remaining can be found at the individual device manufacturers' websites. Vista drivers (in the absence of Windows 7 drivers) can also be used.
This link is no longer valid. Is there a more helpful solution to this problem? I am having the same problem but seeing as how the only offered solution is a link to an outdated webpage maybe a more insightful procedure could be suggested.
