IE Problem

I have a Dimension 4600 and my limited users in the couple of weeks have been unsuccessful in executing internet explorer.  I've tried to recreate accounts, and reloaded XP both unsuccessfully.  I did change one of them from "limited" to "administrator" and they were able to get IE up and access the internet.  Once I changed it back they could no longer do either.  I've attempted to get the Dell support folks but they have been unable to figure it out.  Help!

Don't believe it's a folder permissions issue.  My "limited" users have been able up to recently execute every application.  This is an issue strictly with IE6...and I notice after as I log them off a window will show "iexplore.exe" asking me to "end now" or I let it teminate on its on.  So, it appears that the application is running behind the wallpaper.

This could be due to the fact that the way file permissions are set up, limited users are unable to execute programs.  While in safe mode follow the instructions listed in the microsoft support base and set "users" to be able to access folders and programs.  See if this helps

Yeah, I did that earlier as workaround but really don't want to allow that much control to users.  Thanks.

sorry, i need to clarify something.  Are they able to run IE but not connect to the internet, or does IE not come up.

i'm sorry, but i can't find anything about this problem.  The only thing i found is a "workaround" of this issue which involves running the program with administrator credentials.

    1. Right-click the program’s file name or shortcut.
    2. Click Advanced, click Run with different credentials, and then click OK.
    3. Start the program.
    4. When you receive a prompt, enter an administrative user ID and password.

This, however, defeats the purpose of giving them limited accounts, so is rather pointless.  Sorry I can't help you =/

    EDIT**

I forgot to add, that this is not the normal behavior of IE.  It is an "authorized" program according to Microsoft and as such should be able to be run under a limited account.  Hopefully, someone else on this board will have more information on your problem and be able to help you

When I click on the icon, the hourglass comes up but it never opens the application.

JRosenfels  thanks!!!  I did find quite a bit of spyware on my system.  My limited users now have access again.
