Hello, I have a problem with my Inspiron 9100 (mobile radeon 9700) notebook.
for about 2 months now when I´m playing 3d games (e.g. desert combat, warhammer 40k dawn of war) with my notebook the screen freezes after some time of playing. the only thing i can do then is reset; i can´t go back to windows.
its exactly the same with both games, freezing screen. I own this notebook for about 6 months now and everything worked fine til then. Even after updating the graphic card driver and windows xp SP2 the problem is still there.
I somehow recognized that recently the cooling noice seemed to have become a bit more silent. So I wonder if the problem above could be a result of overheating. anyway temperature has dropped a lot the last weeks so maybe the system doesnt need so much cooling right now; but i´m not sure about that.
I hope someone can help me here
Thx!!

The problem might well be overheating. If the environment is dusty, there may be a buildup of dust in the vicinity of the processor fans and heat sink. Obtain a can of clean compressed air. With the machine off, blow compressed air through the machine's fans.
You might also want to download I8kfanGUI, which will provide much better control over the fan settings than the BIOS will. It will also report on temperatures. In spite of its name, I8kfanGUI supports the 9100, according to the
author's Web site.
There's a difference between the processor load imposed by a diagnostic, and the load imposed by a graphics-intensive game. I'd still suggest obtaining I8KfanGUI. It can be used to monitor temperature sensors as well as control fan speeds. That should help you eliminate overheating as the cause of the freezups.
But I bought the game vampire bloodlines today and played it more than 4 hours. It worked fine, no freezing at all and this game is more hardwarehungry than bf 1942
Most of the articles I've read,
this one for example, suggest that freezes like this are video driver problems. You both might want to ask about this problem in the
Gaming board. Hopefully someone who's encountered this problem will have more specific advice.
