Whether I am browsing the Internet or not, I get the pop-up that says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"...info will be lost, etc. It prompts to send the error reports and I have sent them many times and there is nothing that comes back. This has also popped up at times when my computer is booting or if I am doing nothing. I send the report, Explorer closes and I have to reopen IE6. This is extremely annoying and wanted to see if anyone can help...
When you get the message to send the error report, click on the link to 'show details' of the error report. Write down the AppName and ModName involved in the error and report these here. Sending the error report to Microsoft is pretty meaningless. Telling us what the error report says, may help us help you solve the problem.
Note that almost 80% of the problems currently being reported with Internet Explorer involve malicious spyware that people have downloaded to their computer. This may be the case with your problem as well, but we need to know what the error report says to be sure.
You can use the manual removal technique discussed in that link, or since you likely have other spyware and parasites, download, install, update, and run Spybot and Ad-Aware and let these programs remove all of the garbage that they find.
If Spybot and Ad-Aware don't fix the problem, go the following site and follow the directions to download and run the analysis tool called HijackThis. Generate a log file, then open it and copy and paste the text of the log file in a message in the Virus Information and Removal forum where one of the HijackThis experts can offer advice on how to fix the problem:
