iTunes help

I cannot load iTunes onto my INSPIRON E1705.  The program says that it has encountered an error an needs to shut down.  Also I connot load Quicktime.  It says I have a newer version on my computer and will not load.  I can't find any version on my computer.  Has anyone ever heard of this problem and know how to solve it?  Apple tech support says it's a Dell problem and claims there's nothing they can do.

Please someone help:smileyindifferent:

    I'm sorry to hear that.

Does the error include an error code or have more information? Maybe the event log indicates something?

It just said "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down".  I resolved the issue late last night with the help of the "ON CALL" service from Dell.  The problem was sith Quicktime and not iTunes directly.  If anybody needs the workaround...let me know.

The problem was with Quicktime.  (I'm not sure why)  When I tried to install quicktime it would say that I had a newer version installed and would abort installation.  I had to find and install an older version of quicktime(6.0 or older).  After I installed it; I uninstalled it.  (one of the problems was that there were some components of quicktime left on the computer that wouldn't uninstall.)  Then I was able to install the latest version of Quicktime from the apple website and after that the latest version of iTunes.  I hope this helps someone!  It only took about two days for me to solve:smileymad::smileymad:  In the last couple of days I have heard from several people with the same problem.

I've purchased two items from Apple a Nano Ipod and the Ipod Shuffle ,the store manager was nice enough to burn me a copy of the newer vesion of I-Tunes ,since the included CD with the shuffle did not have the newer I-Tunes version , and after that I went back to Apple and purchased a Nano Ipod the special Edition red one ! At $199.00 it did not even come with any version on CD ,only a lnk for you to follow to download it off the Apple's web site ,a differant manager was on duty and when I told him I had a dial up and downloading it would take forever ,if I did not get disconnected first ,he refused to burn me a copy in a very arrogant manner ,I guess once he realized I was using a Windows based PC ,he had no use for me ,I even threathened to return the Nano and go somewhere else (Best Buy ) to which his response was that only Apple distributors have the Red Ipod Nano Special Edition model ! What a terrible way to treat a customer and as far as the I-Tunes application being user friendly ,Iam still tyring to figure it out ! At least it squashed my interest in ever trying an Apple PC ,I will stay with Windows based products ! Bad Bis ,I dont get mad ,I just dont spend anymore of my hard earned $ with retailers that dont appreciate your chosing them over the compitition ,Iam now looking at other MP3 players ,thou I have to admit the Nano is a nice piece of harware so far and gives you qaulity sound with more then enough volume !

I clicked on my Quicktime icon and it says I have version 6.5.  Would I have to uninstall this version and then install the latest version from the Apple website?

You might want to try to download the newest version of iTunes from the website first (it contains the latest version of Quicktime) and see if you have any problems.  The majority of people I know didn't have any problems doing it that way.  If you have any trouble - then you may want to try the workaround.

    Hope this helps!:smileyhappy:!

Last nite I downloaded  itunes 7.0.2., but I repeatedly  landed on the itunes downloading page.  I did not  want to download Quicktime because I was weary of the itunes page versus Dell's Quicktime
    package.  I have a Dell Ispiron E1505.

    I'm interested in the workaround.

Could you explain what happened a little better and what you are trying to do?  Thanks.
