itunes installation

I'm trying to fix a problem on my son's PC... when I try to load 'i-tunes setup' (from either the enclosed SONY ipod disc, or an independent download pgm), it goes as far as placing the i-tunes icon on the desktop, then it removes it & shows an alert stating it couldn't load the pgm.... I've tried deleting all 'itunes' files/folders & reinstalling, but no joy...any advice?''

    Can you confirm?

    1. PC model & Windows version
    2. What you mean by “SONY ipod disc” (iTunes-QuickTime software is Apple not Sony)?

There should be two initial Setup processes.

First one - when using your iTunes-QuickTime software disk, during this Setup process, on the Setup Type screen (second screen after accepting license agreement), did you enable (check box) Use iTunes as the default player for audio files?

When finished first Setup process, use restart PC option then after reboot open/select the iTunes application this should activate the second Setup process option screens, when finished this process you should receive an update version prompt, download this update. But before you try & run/install this update version you need to close any iTunes application that is open. After all that you are usually asked to register your iPod which can be a hit or miss, but if successful you then receive iPod software updates.

PS. From above note that installation should be done when on-line connected.

No joy!.... tried to load ipod cd  .... didn't get 'ipod default' screen , or 'reboot request' screen... itunes 'Wizard' started to load itunes, then the progress notification screen disappeared w/o any alert/error message!!? Also, I tried loading Quicktime as a standalone pgm from the Apple site.... it wouldn't load... get message that the 'QT Wizard was interrupted, & system is unmodified....'  What's happening??

I sometimes have to disable the nVidia desktop manager to get the Windows Install Shell to function. I have no idea why. If this applies to you, you may give it a shot.

If not already done click here for Apple’s troubleshooting installation of iTunes, QT, iPod etc..

If above link does not help then check:

1 Apples iTunes/QT/iPod - PC minimum requirements click here

2 If using an active firewall (ZAP or equivalent) during Setup then you will likely obtain an Allow file Access warning prompt , you must click Allow, otherwise Setup will definitely abort. Try installing from CD when working off-line (with Firewall & AV applications closed). After Setup is complete, activate FW & AV then reboot & work on-line for iTune & QT updates.
