Instructions for adding memory to your 8200 can be found on my "RDRAM" page of my website. I offer configuration, type, installation and a reputable supplier for RDRAM on the 8200. You may find answers to other questions about your 8200 also on my site.
Okay, it may have been asked before - but here goes:
My system has RDRAM as discovered by programs like CPuz advertised by SpongeBob's website; but is it not possible to remove the RDRAM and just install normal memory (which is cheaper) than the RamBus stuff?
Or am I wrong in saying that the RDRAM is RAMBUS...?
Basically, I do want to upgrade since I only have 512MB, which was a lot back in 2002 or so it seemed. But I've heard from a guy "Mr. Know-it-all", that RamBus is hard to find and expensive. I would think it would make more sense and just buy 4 banks of 512MB Kingston or something Crucial website. (Although it would be nice to get a discount from Dell on memory, since the systems were bought there :smileywink:)
RDRAM = RAMBUS. It is the only kind of memory that will fit in the memory slots on your motherboard and must be installed in matched pairs. No other kind of memory will work in the 8200.
This is probably a no brainer but should i buy some higher-quality fans for my computer since i can imagine a 3.06ghz processor is going to create quite a bit of heat?
I was in the same boat as you neurovir. I must commend spongebob dude, his site was very informative! I already found a few places that sell the P4 3.06ghz processor and the Rambus ram i need.
So yeah, Thank you very much!!!! Good site too. I just wish Dell offered services like that instead of me having to search the entire net. I was going to buy another Dell but my confidence in their business policy has changed quite recently.
Try Crucial. Type in your Dell model and it will present you with the correct memory for you system. For Dimension 8200, it asks you to select between 400 and 533 MHz FSB; you should know which you have. They are good quality and good service. They may not be absolutely the cheapest, but then generic ones are not always reliable.

Your system has four memory connectors, each of which can accommodate a 512MB memory module. The procedure for adding memory is here.
