New memory not being recognized

I am having an issue with a 512MB memory card I installed a few weeks ago.  It was registering fine for a while, but now it is not showing that I have that card installed.  I should have 768MB of RAM, but I am only showing 256MB.  If I restart, sometimes it will register the 512MB card, then suddenly it is not there.  I have tried reinstalling, but am having the same issue.

Hope that someone would have a second to help me with this problem.

THANKS!
Brandon

A couple of things you might try.

1st, switch the 2-RAM module's slots and check performance.  If the 512MB module remains detected and the smaller 256 becomes intermittent (opposite of your present situation) then there is a problem with the MB or MB slot.

You can test the memory in a variety of ways including some downloadable apps found at the links below:

You might want to check to make sure you installed the modules correctly. It happened to me recently, my modules were not making contact with the motherboard correctly. As soon as I checked if they were making contact, everything was fine after I double-checked.
