Reinstall OS

I have a Dell DIM8200 and I am running XP with Service Pack 3.  I want to donate it to a church but I want to Scrape the Hard drive to delete all the personal stuff I have accumulated through out the years. I tried to Reinstall XP with the reinstall Disk that was provided when I purchased the computer.  I follow the instructions about booting from disk but I keep getting a message that the OS System I have installed is a newer version than the reinstall disk and it will not let me proceed.  I have never upgraded the XP on the computer other than adding Service Pack 3.  I tried to delete Service Pack 3 but it will not allow me to do so.  Can anyone help me with this problem?  All I want to do is reinstall the OS and donate it.

Go on Youtube and find a video you like on how to do this. There are many

I just did this same thing today, and all I can say is that you are doing something wrong. Hopefully watching a video will help you.

Don't run the CD from within XP ... you must BOOT to the XP CD and install from scratch.  You will need to delete any/all partitions during the process.

Follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows XP:

It is recommended to carry out the additional Step 7a and securely wipe the hard drive before donating it.

    Hello Smagad,

In addition to what Philip has suggested, you may also refer to this article on How to manually re-install your Windows XP Operating System (please refer to the step# 4 "Re-install the operating system from the OS Setup Disk"). Post re-installation of the operating system, please ensure to install the drivers in the correct order. It is very important for the computer to function properly.

    Hope this helps!
